Hiking to Bald Rock in Cheaha State Park in Alabama

May 13, 2024

After being at the highest point in Alabama, we rode the motorcycle to the trailhead for Bald Rock.

Bruce asked me to get off the motorcycles so he could back into a parking spot. I got off the motorcycle and managed to slip. Fortunately, I wasn’t hurt since I was fully geared up. I used the opportunity to unzip my gear. Bruce saw me on the ground and thought I sat down on purpose.

The Doug Ghee Trail is an accessible trail, making it an easy hike. It is a level boardwalk, with steps down to the ground at various points along the way.

We went down the steps to see the Old Glory Lookout. There was a vault to store the ashes of the flag.

The trail had covered resting stops, with signs about the wildlife.

We took the steps at the end of the trail and walked down to the Bald Rock sign.

The views were stunning and with the map provided, we could tell which mountains we were seeing.

We hiked back to the motorcycle and rode down the mountain to the lower campground. We decided we could fit in a couple of spaces.

We stopped at the lake and as we watched the lake filled up with teenagers swimming.

On the way back to the RV, we stopped at an overlook.

Such beautiful views!
