While in Wytheville, VA, in one of our walks, we walked up to the door of the Octagon Mansion History Museum to see the hours. The door was open and I thought they might be open early.
The owner with some volunteers, was in the process of moving some exhibits back inside. He had just returned from showing some of exhibits at Gettysburg.
We talked to him and he said he was happy to have us walk through the museum, he just wouldn’t be able to give us a tour.
The museum houses his personal collection collected over a lifetime.

I am such a nerd. The Tombstone Epitaph story of the O.K. Corral Gunfight made me think of the Star Trek episode of the O.K. Corral Gunfight.
We thanked the owner for letting us walk through. Bruce gave him $10, which would’ve been the normal tour fee. We felt we got at least $10 worth of enjoyment from the experience.
For some reason, I didn’t take a picture of the outside of the museum. I was fascinated by the octagonal structure in the center. The walls of the octagonal structure were over a foot thick on the first floor. The two wings on either side of the octagon were added on later.
I have never heard of this place. I would not want to have to dust it, though!

Those rugs are gorgeous and in such great condition. Visitors to that museum must be very gentle.

I know we were very careful. I didn’t want to knock into anything.
