Living History Museum in Wytheville, Virginia – Part 1

October 24, 2023

On October 19, after visiting the First Responders Museum, we walked down the hill past the Great Lakes to Florida Museum to the Living History Museum.

We were told to look for the white house to pay for the entry fee. We admired the grounds as we walked to the house.

The inside had a chair exhibit being set up. The plank chair had a long history and was used by the same family from 1815 until the 1970’s. It had been patched and one leg had been chewed by the family dog.

The rest of the chairs had woven seats, most in sad shape.

Other exhibits included baskets, woven bedspread, quilt chests, tables, pottery, black powder rifles and pistols. Please excuse the pictures with reflections. I did my best to get some good shots.

The upstairs was set up to have two period bedrooms. I was fascinated by the locking hat box! I had never seen anything like it.

The docent took us over to the Great Lakes to Florida Museum. He unlocked it and answered questions about it.

After the tour, he locked the building and told us we could see the log buildings. He went to unlock some of the log buildings for us.

That will be another post as this one is getting long.
