Breakfast in Milan, Ohio

September 19, 2023

Once we were settled into Gotta Getaway RV Park, we just hung around the campground on Monday.

Tuesday (August 29), Bruce wanted to go out for breakfast. He did a search and found Inventions in Milan, Ohio. It was about a 20 minute motorcycle ride from the campground.

We rode over and parked. We discovered a very attractive town.

I was surprised to see all the Thomas Edison memorabilia and after exploring the town a bit more, it became clear why there was so much relating to Thomas Edison.

The food was outstanding. Their fried mushrooms were excellent. They sliced large portobello mushrooms and deep fried them to perfection. I have never had mushrooms like this and I consider them the best deep fried mushrooms I have ever had. I also tried their spicy trash hash. It was crispy perfectly cooked hash browns mixed with sausage, bacon, ham, peppers, onions, jalapeños, and pepper jack cheese melted on top. It was a party in my mouth! Bruce had perch and was very pleased. If you happen to be traveling in Ohio along the Ohio Turnpike, this restaurant is really worth the short drive.

After eating, we decided to wonder around the town.

And now, why Thomas Edison was so popular in Milan, Ohio. That’s right, he was born here in this little brick house. We stopped in at the ticket office and were treated to a couple of phonograph music samples. We didn’t take the tour, as Bruce didn’t feel like taking an hour to see an old house. He did enjoy the inventions in the office.

Here are some more pictures of the town. I was surprised that this unassuming white house was in the National Register of Historic Places.

It was a lovely little town and we enjoyed our time walking around.

  1. Julia, thank you for this post. This is the kind of place I would love to visit. Touring old historic homes is how I love to learn about history. I also like a good breakfast! To me, your day sums up why I love RVing so much. You went out to explore, and you made some great discoveries!

    1. It was a beautiful little town and so well preserved. I loved the library and finding the “hot air” balloon “floating” by the ceiling was such a delightful surprise. Someone had a lot of creativity.

  2. A fabulous tour and restaurant (those fried mushrooms!), but what caught my eye at first is the name of the town. I wonder if any Milanese from here know about Milan, Ohio. Thanks for a great post!
