Visiting Tampico, Illinois, the Birthplace of Ronald Reagan – Part 4

July 29, 2023

After we finished our tour and dropped a $20 in the donation box, we looked at the brochure to see what else we might see in Tampico.

The brochure mentions the various buildings the Reagans lived in and the park Ronald Reagan played in. It also covered the churches the Reagans attended.

Here is a sign for the Ronald Reagan Trail. This was taken in Walnut, Illinois. They had a Ronald Reagan Trail sign for Tampico, but we didn’t stop for it.

There were some attractive houses on the way into the village.

We walked around the small Main Street.

The Pitney Store is were Ronald’s father worked. Later, the Reagans lived in the apartment above the store.

We walked to the park.

There was a Civil War cannon in the park when Ronald was a boy. He and the other kids would play on the cannon. Later, the cannon was sold for scrap to help raise money for a charity. The village had a sculpture create a statue of Ronald playing on the old cannon.

From the park, we also saw the house the Reagans lived in for a few years after Ronald was born. We also admired the founder’s home.

We walked to the church that Jack Reagan attended. He was Catholic while Nelle was not. To get to the church, we walked next to the block that had the building Reagan was born in. We could see the back of the building.

That was the end of our checking out Tampico. We walked back to the bike and rode home through Walnut.
