Yesterday, Bruce drove the truck down to the pier so we would have time to arrive before sunset.
The sun was a magnificent ball of red-orange setting over Lake Guntersville.

While the sun was setting, an Osprey swept past the pier many times. It would land, then it was winging over the lake.

Gorgeous sunset! Do ospreys usually build a nest in such an open space?

According to the Audubon app, Ospreys normally nest in tall large trees near the water, but they will build a nest on the ground of small islands or on a cliff side. In Western Mexico, they will nest on large cactus.

Thanks for the information! I guess where ever they deem it safe enough.

I was surprised when I first saw the nest since I thought they only nested high up.
